Globla Studies A - Grading Policy

For this class, you can expect the following grading categories:

            Summative: Content Mastery/Recall (SR)                35%

            Summative: Content Mastery/Application (SA)         35%

            Preparation (PR)                                                      20%

Student Habits of Mind (SHOM)                               10%

  • Content Mastery/Recall assessments include traditional tests and quizzes.  Tests and quizzes will be announced in advance in order for you to prepare.  Questions will be taken from homework, class notes and discussions, as well as any readings or handouts.
  • Content Mastery/Application assessments include essays, projects, performance based assessments including debates and webquests, and other tasks where students demonstrate their ability to apply the content knowledge from the course.
  • Preparation grades include readings for class, review activities or assignments, short research and reflection papers, or many assignments traditionally considered homework.  Because of the nature and purpose of preparation assignments, they will not be accepted late.
  • The Student Habit of Mind grade provides regular feedback on the skills, strategies, and habits necessary for student success – preparedness, engagement, and awareness of resources (student problem solving, and independent initiative).

Classroom Expectations

Absences

Students are responsible to find out and make up missed assignments and activities promptly.  Students are expected to to consult the Daily Agenda and Homework page for their class.  Failure to take responsibility will impact the Student Habit of Mind grade. Students are encouraged to contact me by email at jlagace@rsd13.org if they have any questions or concerns.

Extra Help/Questions

Extra help is available for students who request it.  I am available during x-block as well as after school.  If you would like to meet after school, please see me to schedule an appointment.

Materials:

ChromeBook:  As each student will be issued a ChromeBook, this course will be managed online, primarily through this website as well as Google Drive.  As such, it is essential that students come to class with their ChromeBook fully charged.  Failure to bring your ChromeBook or to charge it will significantly impact your ability to participate in the class and affect your Student Habits of Mind grade.  If you are having problems with your ChromeBook, it is your responsibility to contact Mr. Kurtz immediately so that the issue may be resolved in a timely manner.

Notebook:  Students are expected to have a way of organizing class notes and handouts.  While students are encouraged to use Google Drive as their primary 'notebook', they should also carry a folder or binder as there are some materials that cannot be easily manipulated electronically.

Behavioral Expectations:

1.      Adhere to the District’s Core Ethical Values as well as the rules and policies outlined in the Student Handbook.

2.     Be on time for class.

3.     Be prepared and on task in order that you may participate actively in the class

4.     No food or drink other than water is allowed in the classroom

5.     Cell phones should be out of sight and on silent during the entire class block.
